The Ducati WorldSBK Challenge: Unveiling the Secrets of Success
Iker Lecuona, the new rider for Ducati WorldSBK, has shared his insights after a revealing test at Phillip Island. But here's where it gets controversial: Lecuona discovered that attacking isn't the key to success with the Panigale V4 R.
During the two-day test, Lecuona faced challenging conditions, with higher temperatures and stronger winds. However, this adversity proved to be a blessing in disguise, as it helped him grasp the unique riding style required for the Ducati.
"It's a tricky balance to manage," Lecuona explained. "The bike demands a flowing style; you can't force it. It's all about finding that smooth rhythm."
And this is the part most people miss: Lecuona's approach to understanding the bike. He focused on finding a base setup, utilizing the slower compound tires to his advantage. This strategy is crucial, especially considering the softer race tires won't be available during the actual race weekend.
"We've almost got the base setup figured out," Lecuona said. "The team and I are on the same page, and that's important when you're coming from a completely different bike and electronics system."
Lecuona also praised his team, Aruba.it Racing Ducati, for their understanding and lack of pressure during the preseason. He believes the real test will come after Sunday's Race 2, given the limited track time in Europe's wet January tests.
"My preseason is just beginning," Lecuona joked. "But I'm confident we're on the right track. I feel like a nine out of ten right now, and I'm excited to see what we can achieve."
So, what do you think? Is flowing the secret to success with the Panigale V4 R? Or is there more to it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
